Details and Itinerary
Programme content and guideline itinerary
The programme is spilt into 5 'modules'. You choose the courses / modules that you require and we'll do the rest! Your trip duration will depend on what you require.
Module 1: Recreational PADI courses (Open Water to Rescue Diver) and recreational diving
We realise that some people may already be qualified divers, but the focus in the first couple of weeks is on recreational PADI courses up to Rescue Diver. If you’re already qualified you can do recreational diving, refresher courses and preparing for your Divemaster course.
Module 2: PADI Divemaster Internship and enriched air diving
The Divemaster course is dynamic and rewarding. You learn so much more about buoyancy, rescue skills, first aid, mapping, navigation, physiology, physics, guiding dives and so much more. It is a course full of challenges and develops your leadership abilities for life as a professional scuba diver.
The PADI Divemaster internship that we run is scheduled over 24 days and allows you to get involved in all aspects of running a dive centre. Not only do you complete all the core training exercises but you also get to see what really goes on behind the scenes in one of the busiest dive centres in Utila. You experience everything from working the compressor, to equipment maintenance, from paperwork to sales and it also gives you a chance to learn more about Utila’s dive sites.
As you do the training you will find yourself working for the dive centre in various DM roles. You may find yourself guiding guests, loading / unloading tanks, assisting Instructors or conducting a Scuba Review.
Module 3: Beautiful Oceans Coral Reef Science Instructor Course
This distinctive Science Instructor rating and certification is designed to provide dive professionals with a detailed understanding in selected topics of marine biology, ecology, species and ecosystems. Science Instructors are authorised to teach coral reef biology to divers and snorkelers whilst at the same time providing them with the tools and the know-how for conducting state-of-the-art dive briefings.
Module 4: Wreck diving and underwater photography
These subjects introduce you to two very popular areas of diving – wrecks and photography! Be prepared for some cool wreck diving and plenty of photo opportunities. Diving on wrecks and taking pictures underwater requires additional skills and in this part of the programme you learn how to penetrate wrecks safely and take good pictures underwater. Full details about the courses can be found in the handbook.
Module 5: Tech support diver
The ‘Tec support diver’ course is a diving speciality, with lecture based knowledge development, Confined water training sessions and Open Water training dives. The course is designed to give divers the knowledge, skills and techniques to safely support technical divers on decompression diving, using air, trimix, and enriched air mixes, and pure O2, in accelerated decompression dive profiles. The course is ideal to support your skills as a Divemaster but also introduces you to technical diving.
