Maintaining Biorocks in Indonesia
22 September 2012
Back in 2010 we launched our Biorock project on Gili Trawangan, Lombok, Indonesia. A number of artificial reefs (Biorocks) have since been created by our customers but there is a real need for more volunteers to get involved to maintain the structures.
From November / December 2012 we will be changing the way we offer the Indonesia Biorock project.
Sian, a previous GYD customer, is scheduled to return to the Gili Islands to complete her Biorock Instructor course. Once she is fully qualified we hope to be able to run Biorock courses much more regularly. This will mean more flexibility in terms of when you can start as well as the duration of your trip.
What we are hoping to achieve is a more regular through flow of customers. Customers can then do the Biorock training and spend time maintaining the Biorocks.
Maybe two or three times a year we will also offer a Biorock construction project. What this will hopefully mean is that we can build much larger Biorocks (but only a few times a year) and get customers to maintain the Biorocks during other periods.
Please get in touch if you have any questions about this project as divers are urgently required to maintain the Biorocks.
